  Considering Switching to UV Curing?

UV-curable products are generally 100%-reactive, liquid systems that solidify ("cure") very rapidly at ambient temperatures when exposed to ultraviolet light. When precautions are taken to exclude stray UV, as from sunlight or fluorescent room lights, the pot life of UV-curable products is essentially unlimited.

As such, UV-curables offer the following advantages over slower-curing technologies:
  • Substantially higher production rates
  • Capability for immediate part assembly
  • Can be used on heat-sensitive substrates
  • Extended "open time"
  • Essentially 24/7 operation with no scheduled equipment clean ups (and attendant solvent waste generation) due to premature thickening or gelation of product
  • Reduced electrical power demand of UV lamps versus drying ovens
These advantages combine to make UV-curable products more economical to use in spite of the often lower raw materials cost of other technologies.

In addition, because UV-curable products generally do not contain organic solvents, they have very low volatile organic content ("VOC") and as such are often the best technology from an environmental compliance standpoint.

UV-curable technology does have it's limitations and in many instances may not be an option. If you are considering switching from your current technology to UV curing, FSP Research will gladly explain any facet of UV curing and give you our honest assessment of the pros and cons of UV for your application.
